As Chicagoans we are lucky to have a large selection of amazing restaurants, bars, and cultural experiences.  The crew at Maria’s Community Bar in Bridgeport do a great job of showing us what its like when all those worlds collide.  In addition to Maria’s (one of the best spots in the city to grab a beer) they also have Marz Community Brewing (craft beer made in Bridgeport), Lumpen Media, and a gallery/event space called the Co-Prosperity Sphere.

For the past 14 years they have thrown Version Fest.  The fest has introduced innovative projects that tackle local social and urban issues. The festival highlights projects and people that engage public interest and promote the cultural use of public space.  The title/theme of the fest changes yearly and this year its “100 Watts.”  Recently this always hustling crew announced they were granted a license to build a low-power FM station that will reach up to 2.3 million Chicago listeners over the air and millions more via an online stream.  The Version Festival will serve as the launch of a new radio station, 105.5 WLPN.

At this point you’re probably wondering why I’m sharing all of this info with you.  I was invited by the Lumpen management to create content for the station.  I proposed a weekly/bi-weekly show called the #Feelgood Show.  I just wanted to create an hourlong show of music that the #feelgoodfamily would love to listen to in the car or around the house.  They loved the idea and the first episode of The #Feelgoodshow is available to hear online right now.  I’m so excited for this opportunity and hope that all of you listen to and love the show.  My show is currently streaming in a loop with all the lumpen programming on the radio website.  You can listen to the live broadcast feed by clicking on the blue lightening bolt on the upper right hand corner of the website.  A direct link to my programming can be found here The #Feelgoodshow.

The Lumpen family is in the midst of trying to raise $50,000 to get the station completely built and on the air.  If you know anyone who has a job and are feeling a bit philanthropic, please direct them to the opening night fete. We are asking for $85 which includes delicious food from: Fat RiceParachuteNightwoodThank YouThe Rice TableBig Star and Sobramessa Supper Club.  Open bar libations will be provided by: Maria’s Packaged Goods & Community BarMarz Community BrewingThree FloydsLost Lake, & Parson’s.  The $85 also includes a pass to the entire festival.

If you’re still reading at this point I just want to honestly say THANK YOU.  I started spinning music out really just a year ago and for some reason people seem to really enjoy the #feelgoodmusic.  I started doing this to spin music that my Kr3w wished we heard when we went out and now its ballooned into some of the most amazing opportunities for me.  It’s really all because of the support of everyone that comes out to dance, chill, talk, and vibe.  I don’t get to tell all of you this often but I am humbled by the support and the fact that people wait in line to hear me spin.  I promise to make this show match the #feelgoodmovement that we’ve worked so hard to build over the past year.  So yea I’ll see you all on May 29 at The Whistler.  Until then check me out on the radio……. (so cray to be able to say that).

The weather has started to mellow out some and here in Chicago we’ve already had a few of those 50-60 degree fall days.  This can only mean one thing, Cuffin Season is upon us!  A few weeks ago when the temperature first started to change, I decided spin an entire set at Sportsmans Club filled with Cuffin Music.

For those of you asking wondering what the hell “Cuffin Season” is I’m here to help.  “Cuffin Season” is the time during the Fall and Winter months when people who would normally be single, find themselves along with the rest of the world desiring to be “Cuffed” or tied down by a serious relationship. The cold weather and prolonged indoor activity causes singles to become lonely and desperate to be cuffed.

Without further ado I present to you “Cuffin Season Part 1”

I apologize for the tardiness of this post but better late than never. A few weeks ago friend of #THEFEELGOODMOVEMENT Greg Larsen asked for some #feelgoodmusic to set the mood at his rooftop housewarming party. I was more than happy to provide the soundtrack to what was an awesome day with friends. I recorded the sessions and I hope you enjoy #Feelgoodmusic The Greg Larsen Rooftop Sessions.

Also be sure to check out the events page for the latest info on where you can come hear that #feelgoodmusic for your soul.

I hope to see as many of you as possible on July 18th at The Whistler (2421 N. Milwaukee) for another night of #Feelgood Music.  I’ll be spinning from 9:30PM – 2:00AM and promise to spin that #feelgoodmusic you know and love.  I have also been booked to spin the R&B/Hip Hop classics you know and love on July 31st at Maria’s Packaged Goods and Community Bar in Bridgeport from 9:00PM – 1:00AM.  I hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Lastly, I promised a few weeks ago to post the second part of my May 31st #feelgood session at The Whistler.  I apologize for posting this a week late but better late than never.  I hope you enjoy part two of The Live Whistler Sessions.

SBTRKT & Sampha

One of the dopest things about the internet is the ability to discover music from all over with ease.  Sampha has been  popular in the UK for about four years now.  He just bubbled into the US scene really this past year when Drake sampled his vocally heart melting “Too Much,” and with contributions to Solange’s St. Heron mixtape.

I discovered his music while navigating through some dubstep/garage stuff I found on a blog back in 2010.  There was a SBTRKT track “Break off” that featured these beautiful vocals and I NEEDED to hear more of whoever was singing on the track.  I consumed everything I could find from the kid for years and this year he has blessed us, the #feelgoodmusic community, with multiple gems.  Today he brought it back to the beginning by releasing this new track with SBTRKT.  “Temporary View” features beautiful synths and Sampha’s patented falsetto dissolving into the groove.  Give it a listen and #feelgood.

I grew up listening to Stevie Wonder LPs at home with my parents on an almost daily basis.  The sounds of Stevie really helped shape my love of music.  Stevie epitomizes #feelgoodmusic and I am excited to share with you guys an unreleased Stevie track that I just came across.

This snippet is rumored to have been recorded during sessions for “Songs in the Key of Life.”  All credit for this funky love song goes to  It’s only 45 seconds, but it is a glorious 45 seconds.  Here’s to hoping that we get to hear this entire track and maybe some unreleased Stevie in the near future.

Thursday May 31st, I am heading back to The Whistler to kick of my summer residency at one of my favorite venues in the Chi. What can you expect, well…. here is what The Whistler had to say about me,  “Never afraid to go too deep or take a detour into left field, #Feelgood’s music is his own therapy. He grew up listeninging to his parent’s eclectic collection of funk (George Clinton, James Brown, Sly Stone), soul and R&B (Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Earth Wind & Fire), synth-infused ’80s (Prince) and world music (Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Rob Way, Sun Ra). Today, he blends all of this together and infuses it with his love for hip-hop and television. No matter the genre, this music will make you #feelgood.”

If you have never been to the Whistler, here are a few things to keep in mind.

1. It is amazing, congrats to you for choosing to go.

2. The venue has a limited capacity, get there early.

3. The venue prides itself on its cocktails, order well.

4. If you do come, don’t forget to use the HASHTAG #FEELGOOD for all those amazing pictures you will take while you are there rocking out.

A few weeks back, I was lucky enough to play at one of my favorite venues in Chicago, The Whistler. Well, I guess I impressed since, they were nice enough to ask me back for a series of shows over the coming months.

For a taste of what was heard, check out my mix below, hope to see you next time.
